Deck Building 101

My mom and dad flew in from Saskatchewan yesterday at noon. By 2:00 we were heading to Home Depot to look at deck supplies and then of course we had to head to the Beer Store for "other" supplies! Last night the boys spent hours fixing up the trailor to haul lumber and then this morning realized it was no where near long enough to haul 16 foot lumber, but at least our trailor is now road worthy and ready for camping season. After the trailor and a series of $2 bets on who was right about what, they came in to have more beer or was it scotch by then, and hatch out some serious plans.

This morning they headed to Home Depot for a deck building workshop at 9:00 a.m. They got there to find out the workshop wasn't until 3:00, but they couldn't wait that long. They started browsing and Home Depot didn't have the decking supplies we wanted (and quite frankly we didn't want to shop there - ticked me off during our bathroom renovation), so off to Rona and sorry Jamie, but they didn't have what we wanted either, so off to Home Hardware who finally had our Trex decking in stock - Madeira Contour is our color and style if you want to look it up!
Mom and I offered to help, but mostly got in the way, so this is how we looked most of the time... well actually we went to rent movies and bought Buster Bars! They seemed happy enough with that. Now, off to make supper and take more pictures. Post progress soon!
Day 1 - 4:00 p.m. and this is what we have so far - looking good!
